Sweetest pair of raw, natural garnet crystal earrings.
These lovelies are made using reclaimed sterling silver and tiny natural spessartine garnet crystal rounds. The crystals are in their natural growth shape, completely raw and untreated in any way.
These cute little studs are perfect for everyday wear or to add a bit of citrusy sparkle to any outfit.
- Length is approx. 17.0mm long x 7.0-8.0mm wide.
- Raw garnet crystals are approx 5.0-6.3mm in diameter.
- The earrings are made of solid sterling silver
- Posts are 10mm long x 0.9mm thick.
- The pair come with sterling silver butterfly backs.
What is spessartine garnet?
Also known as fanta garnet, spessartine (not to be confused with spessartite which is an igneous rock) is part of the garnet family of gemstones; itself a huge family of stones - the garnet supergroup - including almandine, demantoid, grossular and the currently trendy, andradite, to name just a few.
Named after the Spessart region in southern Germany, the name roughly translates to "forest", its chemical composition is Mn2+3Al2(SiO4)3. It has a hardness of about 7-7.5 on the Moh's scale.
All photos were taken in my workshop or home. I've tried to capture the beautiful, vivid orange of these gemstones with photos under different lighting and background conditions, unfortunately, they simply fail to show the true beauty of these one of a kind gemstones.
